Adam Rich
Adam Rich is the founder of Love Muffin. Cleveland born and bred, He was always interested in music, building a cardboard guitar (which he still has) and keyboard when he was 9. Heavy metal and hair metal overtook his pop music interest as a teenager, and his parents bought him a drum set at 15 with a guitar to follow at 16. Adam heard Joe Satriani's Flying In A Blue Dream and Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom when he was 18, and he was inspired to record a 4 song instrumental cassette after high school graduation in 1992 on a Tascam 4 track unit. Adam then joined the band State Of Green in college at Bowling Green State University on bass in college and sent their demo cassette to a contest that Cleveland was involved in. Here, Adam played historic Cleveland venues such as the Euclid Tavern, Odeon and Agora for the first time at age 21. The band won Cleveland and recorded a CD, Lost, with the winnings. They also played the infamous CBGB's before it closed years later. Adam expanded his recording in college, releasing two cassettes Virgin Freak and Flavor Savor while in college and created Love Muffin Records to release them. These were mostly instrumental but added some vocal collaboration with Jared Levengood, a fellow musician at BGSU.
Adam moved back to Cleveland in 1998 after graduating from BGSU and quickly looked for a new band as a bassist. Over the next 20+ years, he would play bass for a zen metal band (think Deftones or Incubus), a more heavy metal band (think Pantera), an alt country band and a reggae band. During this time, he released still released solo albums but added different guest vocalists. These include his first CD, Foundation, (2002), followed by You Can't Escape Life (2006), Streetlight Smile (2014), Sunshine & Puppies (2017) and Peaceful & With Purpose (2021). He also released special 20th anniversary CD reissues of his two cassettes from college in 2014 and 2017 respectively. Foundation was done 100% DIY, even down to printing out the inserts at home. You Can't Escape Life was the first professionally designed and duplicated CD which also featured more collaboration with Jared Levengood
Love Muffin also released a DVD retrospective in 2015 about State Of Green featuring concert footage, unreleased photos and new interviews.
Adam hopped back onto guitar in 2007 and got in touch with some of his BGSU musicians to assemble a live band to play his songs at the first Love Muffin concert that year. In 2016 he did the same to perform at LoveMuffinPalooza with a new lineup which lasted until 2019. The current lineup has been together since 2021 and plays other gigs outside of just LoveMuffinPalooza.
Currently, Adam will have a new CD coming out this year titled Kiss Me I'm Rich
